Laser hair removal is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic medicine treatments. Hair (except for our hair-dos) is not seen as desirable in our culture. The most commonly depilated areas are calves, armpits and bikinis. If we look hundreds of thousands of years back, the thick facial hair provided thermoregulation and protection against cold. At the same time, however, it was a habitat of parasites and worms facilitating the spread of bacterial infections. Smooth skin has therefore become an evolutionary requirement for health.
Getting rid of hair with a shaving machine, wax, sugar paste or an electric depilator have been the most popular method for years. Each of these methods has many disadvantages. The biggest one: the hair will grow back very quickly. There are women who have to shave every day. Therefore, the introduction of a laser -a method which offered getting rid of hair for good -meant a real revolution.
Laser hair removal involves elimination of hair using light-emitting devices such as: IPL and E-Light. The mechanism of their action is based on the fact that hair bulbs contain a melanin dye, which absorbs a light wave of a certain length. In the case of a laser one wave is given. IPL produces a wider range of waves. In E-Light RF current is additionally emitted.
Laser hair removal allows for almost complete hair elimination (in practice about 80-90%). Only very thin, delicate, almost invisible hair is left which can be shaven off once a month.
The effectiveness of depilation depends on several factors:
1) Type and quality of hair removal device
2) Parameters used, i.e. the experience of the specialist performing the procedure
3) Hair and skin color
4) Depth of hair follicle placement
5) Going through the whole cycle of treatments at the recommended intervals
6) Accuracy, reliability and integrity of the person performing the procedure.
